Advent 2025: 9 December

Today we’re showcasing some of the family photographs from glass plate negatives in The Dromoland Photographic Collection.

Glass plate negatives are created on a thin sheet of glass coated with a light-sensitive emulsion. Used from the 1850s to the 1920s, they were a predecessor to film, providing sharper and more detailed images than paper negatives.

The collection contains images of Edward Donogh O’Brien, 14th Baron Inchiquin of Dromoland and Leamanegh, his children from his second marriage to Ellen Harriet née White, other family members and friends.
