Unsustainable recordkeeping practices

In the 19th and 20th centuries, documents were placed in metal boxes for safekeeping. This method is no longer sustainable – as you can see, the metal box is subject to rust and decay. Much more suitable are our acid-free archival boxes, which will keep our archival material safe for decades to come.

Below is an image of an archival ‘tin’ box we have preserved as an example of past recordkeeping practices. We promise we don’t keep the elf locked in there all year!
