Sustainable collections
Every measure we undertake at the Special Collections and Archives Department at UL Library is to ensure the long-term sustainability of our collections, so that they can be preserved and enjoyed by generations to come.
Below is an image of one of our oldest manuscripts, from the Bolton Library, an ‘Encyclopedia of medieval knowledge relating to the quadrivium’, dating from 1168. This manuscript is preserved through storage in strict environmental conditions, digital access and careful handling.
